Sandy Cove Newfoundland, where Newfies are still used as true working dogs.
The Newfoundland Dog is bred for work, and they instinctively possess strong traits for water rescue. History documents instance after instance of heroic Newfoundlands saving human lives. So many incredible stories are legend. Those of us who are fortunate enough to share our lives with a beloved Newf will, at some time, personally witness our own instance of this instinct coming to the fore. The water rescue test for Newfoundlands was created to promote these rescue skills, and to encourage the continuation of this rescue instinct.  This test truly shows the bond between dog and human.  It is a thrill to participate in these events with such a wonderful animal.

Roger Frey giving  positive words of encouragment.  I participated in Water trials under 4 different sets of judges and by far Roger Frey was the most encouraging.
